Background Information

Wind turbines are becoming more popular as a means of generating electrical energy. They do so through a simple design. Each turbine can be broken down into simple parts. These include a rotor with blades, a primary shaft, a gearbox, and an electric generator. All of these parts, except the rotor and blades, are enclosed within a main housing, also called a nacelle. Below is a simple diagram breaking down each are of a wind turbine and which parts are included.
